Adult ADHD Self-Test: Do I Have ADHD?

Many adults discover ADHD late – often after their child's diagnosis or because work has stopped working. This article shows the signs and what a serious self-test looks like.

Three symptom types

ADHD is more than being "fidgety":

  • Inattentive: focus issues, forgetfulness, procrastination, distractibility.
  • Hyperactive-impulsive: inner restlessness, talking without filter, impatience, impulsive decisions.
  • Combined: both at once.

In adults, the hyperactivity is often internal – outwardly calm, head spinning.

Everyday signs

  • You start ten tasks and finish none.
  • Keys, phone, appointments – constantly lost.
  • You need pressure (deadlines, adrenaline) to get going.
  • Emotions are intense and fast, hard to regulate.
  • Frequent job, hobby or relationship changes.

ADHD or autism – or both?

The two spectrums overlap. Both can cause sensory overload, but the mechanics differ:

  • ADHD: too many stimuli at once, no filter.
  • Autism: single stimuli become unbearably intense.
  • AuDHD: both – amplifying each other. See AuDHD in adults.

Our online check

The ADHD Check is based on the WHO ASRS scale and takes about 5 minutes. You get an assessment, not a diagnosis.

What to do if you suspect ADHD

  1. Note concrete examples from childhood, school, work.
  2. Talk to your GP or a specialist clinic directly.
  3. Read our Switzerland diagnosis guide.

Driving fitness

Untreated ADHD measurably increases crash risk; treated ADHD brings it back down. If unsure, consult a traffic-medicine specialist.
