How neurodivergent people actually learn

Why classic study methods often fail – and which strategies fit your brain better.

Standard learning is built for standard brains

Linear reading, sitting still for two hours, reviewing the next day: that works if your brain filters input reliably and motivation shows up on schedule. For ADHD and autistic brains, that is exactly the problem.

What works better

  • Interest as fuel. Pick examples from topics that genuinely fascinate you. Your brain anchors content to meaning.
  • Bring your body. Explain while walking, build it with Lego, read aloud.
  • External structure beats inner discipline. Timers, checklists, clear start and end moments.
  • Short, intense blocks. 25 minutes fully present beats two hours half-present.
  • One thing per block. Multitasking costs you disproportionate energy.

When studying theory for the driving test

Pair app drills with real traffic: stand at an intersection and watch what you just learned. Theory becomes concrete the moment it gets a place and a picture.
